Sometimes I feel as if all the funny things I post on here are directly related to Emily, on that note here is what she told me last night after I had a drain placed in my abdomen to collect some of the extra fluid that is not draining.....
Em: Mom, I feel really bad that you had surgery.
Me: Oh, Em, I am really okay, please don't feel bad.
Em: Well, I bet you feel really bad for me.
Me: Hmmm....why?
Em: Because I have to do everything for you.
Note: As great as my children have been throughout this whole ordeal things really haven't changed in the "mom" category. I am still jumping (slowly though it may be) to get glasses of Pepsi or reach that snack that must be had. Now I am not expecting them to do anything different but I think its funny that in her eyes she has become a modern day Cinderella.

the Horse expo
While I have been revcovering in my bed and taking pain killers my dear Jeff took the kids (the two that were interested) to the horse expo where they ran into a Fresian horse. Now not all people know that the only way to obtain a true Fresian horse is to go directly to Holland and haul one home (yes they are a Dutch horse and thats why Jeff loves them). Well they spotted this one at the expo and now Em likes her hair done in a Fresian style.

she said what?
With all that goes on each day I only get a few golden conversation moments with my children. One of these happened this evening as we were driving home from a grand celebration at Chuck-a-rama. It was Jeffs grandfathers 90th birthday and what is any birthday celebration without the Chuck-a-rama. Sidenote: I have been spending way to much time at these fine dining establishments....besides the forementioned buffet we have gone to Golden Corrall and Sizzler ( in fact I have to drive a detoured route to avoid going past Sizzler because Gilly falls apart if we don't go) a few times in the past month or so. Anyway, back to the golden conversation.....So we are driving home and Emily (who has acid reflux) asks me if everyone throws up when they get pregnant. A little bell is ringing slightly in my head. And I respond to her question with a "mmmm.... yeah I think so". She then tells me thats why she thinks she has a little bit of throw up that comes up her throat (this coming from the child who earlier couldn't poo at the restaurant because the toilet was facing the wrong direction). The little bell is now blaring its shrill warning. I then have to lead the conversation into ground unexplored at this point (because Abby has never asked) telling her about how you have to have a period before you have a baby and the golden conversation is turning not so golden as she asks what a period is and how a baby is made. She then asks me the question all parents fear:
"HOW DOES THE SPERM GET TO THE EGG?"
At that I turned the radio station to her favorite country music and said:
"you just have to put it there"
then I turned the radio up really loud.

Happy Birthday Abby!
If you can believe it Abby turned 9 on Sunday. Yup, 9. In some ways that ages me but I don't feel aged yet and thats what matters right? So we celebrated by going to Red Robin then followed that up with Classic Skating (yes, Jeff and I even skated and as soon as I can post pictures you'll see how retro we looked). Then on Sunday we headed over to the Jones' for some great food and good family fun. She got to be queen and dictator all in the same day and loved it. If you'd like to see a great slide show click on over to the Jen and Darran blog, not for the first time she has saved the day with her photography skills. We love you Abby!

The bald eagle has landed
Earlier this afternoon I was having a delightful conversation with my MIL. The reason it was so delightful was because I didn't have many interruptions. In fact I had no interruptions and that should have been a red flag. The next thing in my field of vision is a partially bald Gilly. I just about dropped the phone. He said "Look mom, I cut my hair, now I'm fuzz head". Well he IS fuzz head but just in the front middle section. He then went straight to the bandaids to try and cover it up. You see, I thought I was out of the woods for this kind of thing to happen, he is after all 4. Abbys first reaction was "hey baldie".

Nine more days
Actual conversation between me and Em (she was sitting on the pot)
Em: MOM!
(I rushed in, she sounded urgent)
Me: What is it?
Em: Mom, there is nine more days until a fire drill.
Me: How do you know that?
Em: I counted on the Feb calendar (she has a huge fear of fire drills)
Me: Well, your doing really great, last time you didn't cry and ball up on the floor! Thats good, lets focus on keeping it positive.
Em: okay....
Me: Whats something good you think about when the fire drill goes off?
Em: well, I really like to be the last in line because then I can run.
Me: see, thats great. Why do you like to run?
Em: Because I like to flex my legs. They look good when I flex.
see note
special note: In High school Jeff got "best legs" and to this day he walks around the house flexing them, and to his credit, he does have very great legs. I think I'm going to be in trouble with this kid.

Lost, or just confused
Thursday night, 7:30PM:
I am not a Lost fan. I am so confused when it comes to that show but Jeff has jumped head first into it this season and has been glued to the television (as glued as you can be with three kids vying for your attention). Our Home Teachers came and we turned off the television. They pulled out the Ensign and told the kids a story of Peter and Jesus. This is the exact picture he used:
Brother Larsen asked the kids "do you know who this is with Jesus?"
Em replied "yeah, I think its that guy on Lost"

Actual conversation:
the Elephant Man
So I started browsing my pictures, trying to find some family photos to add to my header. It turns out that I don't actually know how to add pictures to my header so I'm just going to post this one that I found because it makes me laugh. Garrett made this contraption trying to look like an elephant. The straw was so he could breathe.

the bloody nose
Well, she got a bloody nose sledding but I still love posting pictures of my kids doing stuff that would cause me trauma if anyone saw me with, lets say, a tissue jammed up my nose. Isn't that why we blog? (I actually made her keep that in for a while due to the fact that she freaks out if she sees any sort of blood spewing from her body).

Funny things
A few funny things I need to write down before I forget them
Em's primary teacher died. In her prayers that night she said "please pray that sister Hedman is happy in the ground".
Gilly thinks he has a new brother he calls Jason who lives in California. Every time he says something bad he blames it to Jason.......
Gilly: Em, horses are stupid!
Me: Garret Jones! We do NOT use stupid in this house!
Gilly: Jason told me to say it
Me: What? who's Jason?
Gilly: he's my brudder, he lives in Cafonia

Em's big win
As some of you may know, Em won the second round in the Reflections contest. At the awards ceremony they said that there were 1500 entries (and she took first for her age category).

She was a little discouraged that it was a ribbon instead of a trophy, but then I whispered in her ear that horses win ribbons that look just like that. Now she trots around the house with her ribbon on her stick horse.
